For this Sunnyside Records release What Times Are These, Baum’s chosen 5 women poets of varying ages and ethnicities who address our current social-political concerns, and has composed music using their poems for lyrics! Poets include Adrienne Rich, Marge Piercy, Lucille Clifton, Tracy K. Smith and Naomi Shihab Nye. The compositions are all quite different ranging from astonishingly heat-felt beautiful melodies, hard-driving post-bop, to multi-metered, layered grooves that will make you want to move…. with the poems and their underlying concept being the unifying thread.
