PawPaw is a captivating blend of contemporary jazz infused with Afrobeat and hip-hop. It is the affirmation of a vibrant jazz that experiments, explores, and allows itself to do just about anything.Born out of a friendship at the Lyon Conservatory that led to their artistic collaboration, Malou Strauss (tenor saxophone), Vivien Verrecchia (drums), Gaël Bihr (guitar), Hénock Kona (bass), and Antoine Perret (trumpet) cultivate a unique sound. Their music is a sonic experience that bridges the freedom of British jazz improvisation and contemporary jazz composition, influenced by Kamasi Washington, Shabaka Huchings, and Immanuel Wilkins.The group was notably the winner of the SMAC le Périscope's TanDEM 2023/2024 support program and the 2nd prize in the Doua de Jazz 2024 springboard competition. PawPaw, c'est un mélange captivant d'un jazz contemporain bercé à l’afrobeat et au hip-hop. C’est l’affirmation d’un jazz vivant, qui tente, explore, et s’autorise à peu près tout. Né d’une amitié au Conservatoire de Lyon qui aboutira à leur collaboration artistique, Malou Strauss (saxophone ténor), Vivien Verrecchia (batterie), Gaël Bihr (guitare), Hénock Kona (basse), Antoine Perret (trompette), et cultivent un son unique. Leur musique est une expérience sonore tissant les ponts entre la liberté d’improvisation du jazz britannique et l'écriture du jazz contemporain, sous l’influence de Kamasi Washington, Shabaka Huchings ou encore Immanuel Wilkins.Le groupe a notamment été lauréat du dispositif d’accompagnement TanDEM 2023/2024 de la SMAC le Périscope ainsi que du 2ème prix du tremplin Doua de Jazz 2024. Après plusieurs mois de travail et de concerts, PawPaw sortira son premier EP début 2026 !
