Ars Nova Workshop is pleased to present the Bradford - Gjerstad Quartet. Frode Gjerstad was born in Stavanger, Norway and started playing improvised music as a trumpeter in 1968, eventually picking up reed instruments a year later. Around 1981, Gjerstad began a fruitful collaboration with British drummer John Stevens that led to the forming of the group “Detail,” which in 1986 released the album Detail Plus featuring Bradford on cornet. Bradford played with Ornette Coleman's quartet in the 1950s and 1960s, and has played with other artists such as Eric Dolphy, Charlie Haden, John Carter and David Murray, a student of his in the seventies...
