Here @exuberance we have been talking about the convergence of various cultural sources informing jazz. Let's add flamenco.

I first encountered Chano Domínguez in Calle 54—Fernando Trueba’s stunning 2000 latin jazz documentary.

Both flamenco and Chano come from southern-most Spain—Andalusia. Like jazz, Lionel Rolfe observes, “Flamenco is defiantly improvisational; like many great musical traditions such as blues it is music that comes out of suffering and survival, love and death.” Passionate music for sure.

Chano Dominguez is creating what may be the first organic combination of jazz and flamenco. …And it wasn’t devised in a record company boardroom. The fusion is in the musician. It is the individual who has two cultures....
