This concert, eighth in the series, features blues singer and guitarist Johnny Never and his band on Wednesday, May 18. Johnny Never pays tribute to Blind Boy Fuller, Son House, Robert Johnson, and the vast array of characters who emerged out of the deep South about a century ago and gave birth to the blues. Johnny plays with a passion and an authenticity that has been recognized by blues lovers and music societies from Baltimore to New York. In 2011, Johnny and his band were selected by the Philadelphia Folksong Society to be the only regional act to perform in a concert filled with blues greats, honoring blues legend Robert Johnson’s 100th birthday. Johnny’s unique and dynamic finger-style guitar playing and voice conjur up deep, soulful, Delta slide moans, slow blues ballads, early jazz and driving Little Walter and Muddy Waters’ riffs. In 2014, he brought harpist Zep Harpo with him to Memphis TN, where they were quarter-finalists in the International Blues Challenge. After seeing their performance in Memphis, Delta Groove recording artist Bob Corritore said this: “When you listen to the music of Johnny Never and Zep Harpo you will NEVER look back! They are as authentic as it gets”...

Johnny also leads a four or five-peice band, The Solar Pimps. Johnny and the Band have opened for such national acts as Guy Davis and have played in venues and festivals from Washington, DC to New York.
In 2011, the Solar Pimps were one of three bands chosen by the Philadelphia Folk Song Society to honor father of Delta Blues, Robert Johnson's 100th birthday. They were the only local Philly band selected.

In addition to Never on guitar and vocals, the band for this Jazz Bridge performance, consists of upright bassist Brad Haberle, and drummer Jimmy Crawford.
