Kris Davis's Capricorn Climber at Philadelphia Art Alliance

Laubrock, the German saxophonist in Capricorn Climber, has worked with Evan Parker, Veryan Weston and Jason Adasiewicz; she is also the leader of Sleepthief and Anti-House (with Kris Davis). The violist Mat Maneri has worked with Cecil Taylor, Matthew Ship and William Parker, and he has recorded several albums as leader for labels such as Leo, hatOLOGY and Thirsty Ear. The bassist Trevor Dunn has worked with Mr. Bungle, the Melvins, John Zorn, Fantômas and Nels Cline. Tom Rainey, Capricorn Climber’s drummer, has worked with Tim Berne, Marc Ducret and Craig Taborn, and he leads a trio with Laubrock and Mary Halvorson.

With Capricorn Climber, Davis says she is “focusing on compositions that embrace the first meeting of this group: the instant chemistry when improvising, the sonic qualities and blends between the instruments and each individual’s ability to shape ideas and create a story using the compositional material.”
