Yet another piano prodigy, Mike began playing classical at age 4. Before meeting Orrin, he studied jazz piano with Jim Ridl, Stanley Cowell and Mike LeDonne. He has played with the Captain Black Band, Curtis Lundy, Conrad Herwig, Joe Ford, Joe Magnarelli, Duane Eubanks and dancer Savion Glover. He serves as music director for theater companies and both coaches and accompanies singers.
The album features an all-star band: Steve Wilson, Ben Wolfe, Josh Evans, Anwar Marshall, with vocalists Gene Shinozaki, Claudia Acuรฑa, and Maya Holiday. 12 tracks in all, 10 of them composed and arranged by the bandleader. Josh Evans started studying with Jackie McLean at age 14. The trumpeter has worked with Billy Taylor, Frank Wess, George Cables, Benny Golson, Winard Harper, Rashied Ali, Cedar Walton, Billy Harper, Curtis Fuller, Charles Tolliver and many more. Heโs a composer and arranger, leading several ensembles including an eponymous big band.
Todd Bashore moved to NYC to study with the late Jimmy Heath. Since then he has performed and recorded with David Berger, the Captain Black Big Band, the CTI All-Star Band, Orrin Evans, Pedro Giraudo, Slide Hampton, Jimmy Heath, the Mambo Legends Orchestra, matchbox twenty, Christian McBride, the New York City Ballet, Chico OโFarrill, Valery Ponomarev, Bobby Sanabria, Bruce Springsteen, Charles Tolliver, Bebo Valdรฉz, Max Weinberg, and many others. A blistering and soulful soloist, he is also a brilliant composer and arranger with many charts for the Captain Black Big Band and the Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra.
Ben Wolfe has released nine CDs as a leader. With the exception of two songs, these are comprised solely of his original music. He has worked with Wynton Marsalis, Harry Connick, Jr., and Diana Krall, and recorded with Branford Marsalis, Orrin Evans, James Moody, Eric Reed and Benny Green. Ben is currently on the teaching faculty at The Juilliard School: Jazz Division.
Victor Lewis last visited @exuberance with the Alchemy Sound Project in December 2018. His first big name job was with Hank Crawford. Before long, he was working with Woody Shaw. His curriculum vitae includes performing with Joe Farrell, Earl Klugh, Hubert Laws, Carla Bley, David Sanborn, Stan Getz, Kenny Barron, Art Farmer, J.J. Johnson, Mike Stern, John Stubblefield, Grover Washington, Jr., The Manhattan Jazz Quintet, Bobby Hutcherson and Bobby Watsonโthe list goes on. A prolific composer, Mr. Lewis has recorded four albums as leader. His albums as sideman would happily fill your shelf.
