Minas Presents "Jobim, His Legacy in Unforgettable Songs” at World Cafe Live

Philadelphia’s premier and international Brazilian music group Minas honors composer Antonio Carlos Jobim with a concert featuring classics, as well as Minas’ originals influenced by the master. Concert-goers will hear favorites such as Wave, Águas de Março, Chega de Saudade, The Girl From Ipanema, Corcovado, Desafinado, One Note Samba, Só Danço Samba, as well as more obscure songs in the likes of Luíza, Lígia, Jet Samba, Favela, A Felicidade, and Retrato em Branco e Prêto.

Orlando and Patricia, who are the core of Minas, moved from Rio de Janeiro to the Philadelphia area in 1984 and are considered experts in the music of Jobim. Their unique vocal style, sung in Portuguese and English, as well as their approach to nylon-string guitar and piano, have enchanted audiences with their magical sound where the poetry of their lives are heard in every note. Appearing as a quintet, with Tom Cohen (drums), Jim Stager (bass), and John Swana (EVI and valve trombone), Minas will transport you straight to Brazil. Up for a Grammy nomination in several categories for their 2015 release "Symphony in Bossa", Minas has been instrumental in introducing Brazilian music to diverse audiences in the Philadelphia region via concerts and education. Their program “Brazilian Adventure” has reached over half a million youths in the past 25 years.
