Originally from Seattle, WA, Sam came to Philly to study music at Temple University. His music reflects this two coast experience, combining the unique sounds of Seattle's music scene with the down to earth, swinging Philly vibe. His group brings a mix of originals, jazz standards, and selections from the books of great composers such as Thelonious Monk, Sam Rivers, and Joe Henderson. Sam has played with the Temple University big bands, the Laura Lizcano group, and the Bellevue College Big Band (a premier college big band in Seattle). He has had the honor of studying with such jazz greats as Dick Oatts, Ben Schachter, Tim Warfield, Walter Smith III, and Ken Peplowski.
