She's been combining jazz with politics and cultural commentary since 1996 when she teamed up with over 20 Philly musicians to create her classic CD With A Little Help From My Friends (now in re-issue). This singer performs jazz classics and originals,"with a healthy dose of funk, dissonance, biting satire, and moral outrage"...with a voice ranging from melodic oration and soulful wails to sultry moans and mockingly saccharine excess, effects aided by her powerful projection, smooth glissandi, and effortless ornamentation."
