The Julian Hartwell Trio or “JHT” is a versatile piano trio that performs original repertoire in the vein of modern jazz, funk, hip-hop and fusion. While predominantly the vehicle for exploring pianist Julian Hartwell's original music, they also draw on the wide spectrum of influences behind each member’s musical background. As a unit they can dabble in everything from backbeat-heavy hip-hop grooves, choice pop and RnB covers, time-worn jazz standards, and edgy modern jazz heads. A blend of electric and acoustic instrumentation allows for a cross-breeding of sound that lends a fresh approach to the concept of ‘piano trio’…making this outfit ideal for everything from tasteful background music at formal events...in-your-face creative interplay..backing-band for guest vocalists, MC’s, jam sessions, and more.
