The Nu School Collective at Solar Myth

Ars Nova Workshop presents the next installment of a new monthly series featuring Philly-based Nu School Collective, curated by Kayla Childs (aka Black Buttafly), at Solar Myth on Monday, August 26.

The shape-shifting group known as the Nu School Collective represents the kaleidoscopic blend of influences found on the contemporary Philadelphia music scene. New Jersey native Kayla Childs, a singer-songwriter, artist and producer who performs under the moniker “Black Buttafly,” has roots in gospel, jazz and Soul music, with influences including Patrice Rushen, Herbie Hancock, Stevie Wonder, and J Dilla. Childs formed the Nu School Collective to explore music in a fearless way, all while exposing the genius that lies within her collaborators. Contributors for this event include Steve McKie on drums, Evan Lawrence on bass, Dai Miyazaki and Keyanna Hutchinson on guitar, and Jermaine Holmes and Redd Lavoe on vocals....
