About

Author, scholar, ragtime pianist, cornetist, singer, and band leader, Tex Wyndham has a national reputation as a performer and authority on ragtime and early jazz. He can be heard on some 40 recordings including performances with Wild Bill Davison, Maxine Sullivan, and Banu Gibson. He is the author of Texas Shout: How Dixieland Jazz Works. In 1998 Tex was nominated for a National Heritage Fellowship in Folk and Traditional Arts. As band leader, he heads up the Red Lion Jazz Band, Rent Party Revelers, and the MTB (Margery Thompson Birthday) Jazz Band. A prolific author, he’s been writing columns and ragtime and classic jazz reviews over the last 35 years for publications including The American Rag, The Mississippi Rag, and Rag Times, publishing more reviews of ragtime and Dixieland jazz than any other U.S.-based writer. The Red Lions play a cross-section of American popular music from 1895-1930, including blues, marches, cakewalks, and rags, and have performed for years at area venues such as Wilmington’s Radisson Hotel and the prestigious Green Room of Hotel Dupont....
