Jazz Bridge presents their “Third Thursday Neighborhood Concert Series-Jazz on the Main Line,” at The New Leaf Club, 1225 Montrose Avenue, Rosemont, PA 19010 on Thursday, November 19. This second concert in the series features The Sermon! Showtime is 7:30-9:00 p.m. and tickets are $10 general admission/$5 for students, and are only available at the door. The Sermon! is a high energy, four-piece instrumental band from the borough of West Chester. Since its inception in 2005 The Sermon! has had the honor and privilege of playing with the legendary "Papa John" DeFrancesco, as well as the members of The Sermon's extended musical family. Deriving their name from the classic Jimmy Smith album title, The Sermon! is best characterized as a Hammond B-3 Organ-driven group in the vein of improv-saturated soul, funk, and jazz. The tunes in a typical Sermon set range from the catalogs of Grant Green, Lonnie Smith, and Jimmy Smith, unexpected revisits of more contemporary work, and plenty of soulful original material. The Sermon! has recorded a number of times and performs frequently before its hundreds of fans in the West Chester and Phoenixville area.
