Hannah and Josh: Hannah Rose Nicholas & Josh Machiz are Philadelphia-based multi-instrumentalists and composers who have been playing together and co-writing songs since they met in the spring of 2018. Their favorite rehearsal space is one of their porches.
Hannah (viola, vocals) performs with the Pennsylvania Ballet (Principal Viola), the Philadelphia Orchestra, Baltimore Symphony, and Orchestra 2001. She is a member of the band The alt Default, (formed in Miami in 2014), and a founding member of the viola duo Shizuka, with Sam Kelder. Hannah recently released two original songs, “Home,” and “Wanderers,” featuring guest guitarist/vocalist Josh Nussbaum. www.hannahroseviola.com
Josh (double bass) performs with TJ Kong & the Atomic Bomb, Arcana New Music Ensemble, Murmuration, Dirty Dollhouse, Hurricane Hoss, BalletX, and the Bearded Ladies. Josh is also a comedian who's stand up has been featured on Amazon. He runs a new Stand Up Comedy showcase called Grin & Beer It at Earth Bread + Brewery. www.joshmachiz.com
Ellwood Epps- Ellwood Epps has been giving solo performances on trumpet for about 20 years and has performed in Toronto, New York, Montreal, Boston, and Calgary. Born in Toronto in 1976, trumpeter Ellwood Epps lives and works in Montreal, where he leads Togetherness!, a quintet which plays music from South Africa and beyond. In addition to playing often with Montrealers Josh Zubot (Land of Marigold), Michel F Côté and Alexandre St-Onge (Pink Saliva), Nicolas Caloia (Ratchet Orchestra), Yves Charuest, John Heward (Murray Street Band), Lori Freedman, and Jean Derome, Epps has made music with Steve Lacy, William Parker, John Butcher, Henry Grimes, Axel Dörner, and Marshall Allen. He is co-founder and artistic director of l'Envers and co-founder of the Mardi Spaghetti series; in all he has presented upwards of 1000 concerts. He has also worked as codirector of the Festival of New Trumpet Music Canada.
Ellwood has played on over 75 records, including 25 as leader/co-leader, for diverse labels including Mr. E, Ambiances Magnetiques, &Records, Constellation, VICTO, Rogue Art, Majmua, Kakutopia, Panospria, Drip Audio, Barnyard, Mode, Audiogram, and Bug Incision.
