Washington was a Philadelphia-based American jazz-funk / soul-jazz saxophonist. Although he was considered the founding father of smooth jazz, his music expands well beyond jazz. He recorded hits like Just the Two of Us; Mister Magic; Soulful Strut; Knucklehead and Winelight. And, yet remained grounded in the tradition of the local Philadelphia scene as an all-out player.
