Ars Nova Workshop kicks off 2024 with the improvising supergroup of saxophonist Zoh Amba, guitarist Steve Gunn, bassist Shahzad Ismaily and drummer Jim White at Solar Myth on Wednesday, January 3.

The irrepressible saxophonist Zoh Amba has rapidly established herself as a boundlessly creative locus of the NYC improvised music community. As the first performer to headline Solar Myth when the venue opened in November 2022, it’s only fitting that she return to help launch our second full year of innovative programming. Ever in search of new creative challenges, she’s gathered a jaw-dropping quartet of improvisers who blur the lines of genre and style, all of whom have graced the stage at Solar Myth: Doylestown-raised guitarist Steve Gunn, an exploratory sound sculptor as well as a mesmerizing singer-songwriter; Shahzad Ismaily, bassist of Marc Ribot’s punk-jazz Ceramic Dog as well as a venturesome multi-instrumentalist and producer; and inventive drummer Jim White of the Dirty Three and Xylouris White.
