Saturday Jazz Night: New Niks & Eivind Aarset Sonic Codex 4tet at Lantaren Venster

This is the third and, for now, last Saturday Jazz Night of the year. And it's going to be a night with the spirit of rock music.

New Niks, the bass-less quartet from drummer/composer Arend Niks, will release a new album by the end of the year. The title of the album is 'On' and in contrary to the previous albums it will contain more groovy pieces.

New Niks received praise from the press, as well from the public with their album 'Busy, Busy, Busy', a collaboration with Artvark Saxophone Quartet.

Also from Europe, but musically something very different is Sonic Codex 4tet from Eivind Aarset. The guitarist from Norway is most known from his work as sidekick for Nils Petter Molvaer and he played on many albums from greats as Ray Charles, Ketil Bjørnstad and Django Bates. Aarset gets inspired by rock, jazz, ambient and electronic music. A combination which is typical for a wave of new Norwegian music that also includes groups such as Jagajazzist. Sonic Codex 4tet plays a groovy set electronic jazz soundscapes with some rock beats framed within an atmosphere made by stunning visuals.
