Gypsophilia at Milford Music Festival at The Milford Theater

Halifax-based Gypsophilia is a group of seven young performers whose instrumental music straddles the jazz and indie-swing worlds. The band started as a Django Reinhardt tribute, but soon found itself mixing and composing gypsy jazz with klezmer, funk, classical music, swing, and bebop while sweeping up international music awards and selling out shows all over the US and Canada. Gypsophilia is known for their serious musicianship, humor and showmanship with the capability of enchanting a sit-down crowd at one moment, and whipping people into a dancing, clapping, singing frenzy at the next. Bob Harris from BBC Radio 2 says, “There is a definite edge to their music. [They] blur the lines between Django Reinhardt-inspired jazz on the one hand and indie music on the other – it’s quite incredible … if you ever see their name you must go and see them – it’s a visual delight as well.”
