DELE SOSIMI -
Dele's career began when he joined Fela Anikulapo-Kuti's Egypt 80 (1979–86). Sosimi then created the Positive Force band with Femi Kuti, with whom he performed from 1986 to 1994. In both bands he was keyboard player, also musical director and arranger.
Based on Afrobeat, Dele's music is a blend of complex funk grooves, Nigerian traditional music (including hi-life), African percussion, underpinning the jazz horns and solos from other instruments, as well as rhythmical singing.
Following his first solo album Turbulent Times, he was invited to select the tracks for the 3-CD compilation "Essential Afrobeat" (Universal, 2004). He was producer and co-writer of "Calabash Volume 1: Afrobeat Poems" by Ikwunga, the Afrobeat Poet (2004). He is a central member of the Wahala Project and has also featured on British rapper TY's album Closer and his "Turbulent Times" is featured on The Afrobeat Sudan Aid Project (2006). His album Identity has been described by Songlines magazine as “A sizzling set from London’s Afrobeat leader”.
His performances include The Montreux Jazz Festival, Joe Zawinul's Birdland (Vienna), Treibhaus (Innsbruck ), Paradiso and Bimhuis in Amsterdam, Oerol Festival, the Ollin Kan Festival (Mexico City), Canada Afrobeat Summit (Calgary, Canada), Sensommer Int Musikkfestival (Oslo), Festival Musicas Do Mar and Festival Musicas do Mundo (Portugal), Festival Art des Ville - Arts des Champs (France), Hot Club (Lyon), Cave à Musique in Mâcon (France) and the London African Music Festival. In November 2010, Sosimi was appointed Afrobeat music consultant for the London production of Fela! at the National Theatre, London, in which he also played keyboard.
THE FILTHY SIX -
The Filthy Six are the most exciting, authentic Soul Jazz outfit in the UK today and have established themselves as one of the most electric live acts on the scene. Their soaring horns, blistering guitar and gut-wrenching Hammond are fuelled by one of the hardest grooving rhythm sections around producing a hip-shakingly powerful mixture of jazz, funk and boogaloo totally in keeping with the finest traditions of the Blue Note sound. These instrumental groove merchants fuse boundless energy and incredible musicianship to create tight, funky music that moves the mind, body and soul whilst simultaneously tearing the roof off every venue they play.
Led by trumpeter Nick Etwell (Tom Jones, David Axelrod, Mumford & Sons) this crack unit of erudite musical gunslingers have graced the bands of some of the biggest names in music including Amy Winehouse, Jill Scott, Beck, Mark Ronson, Jack White, Dionne Warwick, Pee Wee Ellis, Ronnie Spector, Basement Jaxx, Spiritualized, 4hero, Atomic Bomb Band, Madness, Galactic and the James Taylor Quartet to name but a few.
SCRIMSHIRE -
Adam Scrimshire started making music on an Amiga 500 with a Yamaha Tone Generator and an 8-Bit Sampler at the age of 14. Surrounded by his family’s shared love for vinyl and dancing he was perhaps surprisingly the only one to decide he wanted to make the stuff.
Signed by Wah Wah 45s in 2006, Scrimshire’s sound is steeped in jazz, soul and funk, but with a nod to contemporary sounds, and with strong popular song writing sensibilities.
Scrimshire has now delivered three albums on Wah Wah 45s, Along Came the Devil One Night…, The Hollow and Bight as well as his own Allo Love compilation album featuring some of his favourite artists.
As well as being a seasoned vocalist, multi-instrumentalist and producer for the label, Adam Scrimshire is also one fine resident DJ! His open musical tastes and sublime skills make him a Wah Wah natural, and his penchant for some sultry soul music definitely makes him a bit of a favourite with the ladies.
Regularly producing beats and mash-ups both for his DJ sets and for release, Scrimshire always has something new (or something old but new) to offer and always leaves the dance floor begging for more.
