Abington Art Center Fall Jazz Series: M & M Quartet at Abington Art Center

Father-son duo Mike and Mekhi Boone will be closing out the Fall Jazz Series with the M&M Quartet this Friday night. Mike Boone has been an adjunct professor of jazz bass at Temple University since 2005, and has collaborated with artists like The Buddy Rich Big Band, Jeff Tyzik, Tony Williams, Sid Simmons, and many more. Mike brings decades of experience in the Philadelphia jazz community, including a 16 year stint in the famous Tuesday Night house band at Ortlieb's Jazz Haus and several albums to his credit including 1994's ' Better Late Than Never', 1998's 'Old Heads' and most recently 2014's 'Heart and Soul'....

Mike's youngest son, Mekhi got his experience playing in local Philly Jazz Clubs with his father. He watched and tailored himself after Philly drummer, Byron Landham and began to play on a professional stage, by the age of 7. Mekhi plays weekly at a Philly establishment named LaRose, which is hosted by saxophonist, Tony Williams. He is also a regular fixture at Chris's Jazz Cafe where he sits in on the weekly Monday Night Jam Session.
