About
Footprints is an informal group of musicians who come together, from different musical backgrounds and experiences, to share their enjoyment of playing great and sometimes neglected tunes from the jazz repertoire. For our evening at MAP, the quintet will consist of saxes, piano, bass and drums will perform a varied and lively set-list of about fifteen jazz pieces at MAP.
Ranging from 1950s ‘bebop and ballads’ through to recent cross-over styles including funk and some Latin-influenced material. Some of the tunes we will play are well-known, even if audiences often know them without knowing what they are or where they come from. Others are unfamiliar and hardly ever played, overlooked in a vast Aladdin’s cave of jazz standards. We’ll include tunes by Charlie Parker, Thelonius Monk, Benny Golson, Cannonball Adderley, John Coltrane, Joe Henderson, Horace Silver, Oliver Nelson, Freddie Hubbard, Herbie Hancock and others. Some we’ll play simply, others as arranged specially for this MAP line-up, and others given distinctive new treatments with extended improvisation....
