Gwyneth Herbert at 606 Club

One of the most creative and striking performers currently working on the UK scene, Gwyn’s soulful, seductive voice is something quite special, bringing sophistication to her singer/songwriter material, and a wonderful “edge” to the occasional cover. Her first CD “Bittersweet and Blue”, released 10 years ago now on Universal, established her as a force to be reckoned with, receiving enormous acclaim in the process. Since then she has gone on to produce an immensely impressive series of CDs, last year gifting us with her sixth recording, “The Sea Cabinet” which yet again garnered universal praise and excitement, being described as “wildly inventive...entirely a law unto itself” (The Metro). And not content with being one of the finest singer/songwriters in the country (really) she has also won two prestigious theatrical awards for her music, had them queuing around the block at the Rochester Jazz Festival in New York (where her show was in the top ten out of over two hundred), seen her cover of Neil Young’s ‘Only Love Can Break Your Heart’ used in a Hollywood ‘rom com’, written a song-cycle about the sea which debuted at the Aldeburgh Festival, sung a series of 18th Century murder ballads on Radio 4 and composed and performed a specially commissioned soundtrack to the silent film “The Patsy” at the BFI. Most recently she provided the music for the musical "The A-Z of Mrs P" and this year alone sees A Note to the New Government commissioned by The London Sinfonietta and The Royal Philharmonic Society for performance at The Southbank; two musical /film /art installation collaborations with artist Mel Brimfield, “The Palace that Joan Built” and “Henry and Barbara – the Musical”; a new theatrical Song Cycle "The Rhythm Method" with Diane Samuels and the release of her debut record production project, Frances Ruffelle's’60s French pop-influenced album “I Say Ye-Ye’. And just to prove the point, this enormously talented vocalist with the sultry voice and stylish delivery includes the likes of Sir Paul McCartney, Kevin Costner and Michael Parkinson (and us!) among her fan base. Tonight Gwyneth will have the sublime guitar playing of Al Cherry to add extra allure to an already special evening of music. Quite brilliant....
