Jazz Bridge is kicking off Jazz Appreciation Month—the month of April—by presenting famed jazz pianist Hal Galper and the Youngbloods Quartet in an April 1 concert at the Bainbridge Club, 1523 Bainbridge Street. Hal Galper has had an incredible, six-plus decade career as an accompanist, bandleader, recording artist, educator and composer. He’s backed a number of jazz giants, including Chet Baker, Anita O’Day, Joe Williams, Chet Baker, John Scofield, and Stan Getz. He spent the years 1973 to 1975 as a member of the Cannonball Adderley Quintet, replacing George Duke, and from 1980 to 1990, occupied the piano chair in Phil Woods’ Quintet. After leaving Woods, Galper led his own trio, which continues to tour the world six months a year. Of his trio’s latest recording, “O’s Time,” Jazz Times magazine described it as “the most complex, daring, exhilarating music of Galper’s career,” while All About Jazz deemed it as “Exhilarating! The Hal Galper Trio shows the others guys what innovative is all about.” ...
