The 23-strong National Youth Jazz Orchestra (NYJO) will take to the stage under the direction of MD Mark Armstrong to bring you the best of British big band jazz.

NYJO is a glittering showcase for the UK’s finest young professional jazz musicians, combining a hard-swinging rhythm section and a raft of hugely talented soloists. Performing around 40 concerts a year both nationally and internationally, NYJO has helped launch the careers of many of the country’s most renowned jazz musicians including Guy Barker, Amy Winehouse, Mark Nightingale and Laura Jurd.

Female jazz musicians have long been an important part of the jazz scene, commended as singers but often under-represented and undervalued in other roles. Our concert will celebrate women’s contributions to jazz throughout history from the 1930's to the present day, all of whom just happen to be female!
