RNCM Big Band And Singers - Too Darn Hot at RNCM, Theatre

For two nights only, we’re going to transport you back in time to the halcyon days of the Big Band era, taking in classic standards such as Too Darn Hot, On the Street Where You Live and What is This Thing Called Love. For this journey through the music of the 30s, 40s and 50s, we’ll be guided by Mike Hall and the RNCM Big Band who for this exciting collaboration, will be joined by students from our School of Vocal Studies and Opera to bring these stunning songs to life.

This project is a fantastic opportunity for our students to demonstrate their versatility, to work in new ways and to learn useful new skills outside their ‘regular’ teaching scenarios. Our vocal students will audition and when we’ve selected our 15/16 singers, they’ll receive special training for these shows, including workshops with the wonderful Tina May, a legend in the jazz and Big Band world who you may well have seen perform here at the RNCM....

And to evoke the balmy jazz clubs of the period, there may well be a few surprises in terms of staging, lighting and costumes, as Stefan Janski, who has brought his amazing vision to so many RNCM Operas, will direct these concerts.
