The Jazz Journalists Association is proud to announce that Don Gardner has been named a Jazz Hero, in a slate of 26 other devotees to the music in 23 cities across the United States. Biographies celebrating each of the Jazz Heroes and a collage featuring their photographs will be posted on April 1 at the JJA's website http://www.jjajazzawards.org/p/2016-jazz-heroes.html.

Don Gardner will receive an engraved statuette and be celebrated by local supporters at an event on Friday April 22, 2016 at Rueben’s Marc 8131 Stenton Ave, Philadelphia, Pa. The free reception will be held from 7:00-8:30 followed by the Spirit in Jazz Band at 9:00 pm. ($15)...

The Jazz "Heroes" award acknowledges the contributions of dedicated individuals who serve as advocates for creative music in their local communities. The Awards are conferred on the basis of nominations from community members, and are presented in conjunction with the JJA's annual Jazz Awards honoring significant achievements in jazz music and journalism.
