The Nutcracker Suite was Ellington's first album-length project devoted to the work of another composer. But that's not the only thing that makes this recording special. For the first time, the album cover features both Ellington and his longtime musical partner, composer-arranger Billy Strayhorn, as well as listing three last names as the work's creators: Ellington, Strayhorn and Tchaikovsky.
