The Allgäu multi-instrumentalist Matthias Schriefl, who has lived in the cathedral city for over 20 years, will be on stage with the Cologne Contemporary Jazz Orchestra, his brilliant colleague Amith Nadig from Bangalore (bamboo flutes) and the South Indian dancer Nivedita Sharma, and it promises to be great. South Indian-Allgäu songs will be offered, mostly written by Schriefl, which will be refined with Indian improvisations, the soloists and the grooves of the CCJO and Schriefl’s colorful arrangement ideas.
A yodel is fused with Indian rhythms as if it were the most normal thing in the world, a South Indian Mallari or dance piece is harmonized with European chord confusion, Cologne Cathedral is relocated to Bombay and the Himalayas are moved to Düsseldorf.

Sin dance is highly virtuosic in many respects and to Western eyes and ears it looks like something from another planet. The dancer and dance teacher Nivedita Sharma from Bangalore knows how to merge cultures like no other and how to make Indian gestures, facial expressions and a precise sense of rhythm work with Allgäu dialect and Ukrainian songs. The emotional effect of the music – in every conceivable direction of human feeling – is intensified by her dancing. Perhaps it is these musical and cultural bridges between countries and continents that can bring peace for future generations?
