Last fall, the Cologne Contemporary Jazz Orchestra (CCJO) proudly turned 20 years old, in February 2023 the album Tales From The Wooden Kingdom, created with singer Veronika Morscher and composer & arranger Heiner Schmitz, was nominated for the German Jazz Award 2023 in the category Album Vocal of the Year. From now on, the CCJO will be heard regularly at the LOFT.
In its 2nd LOFT-concert of the year, the CCJO meets composer and arranger Claudia Döffinger. The musician, who has been living in Cologne since 2021, will present a best-of of her previous programs and embark on a musical journey through her creative world together with the CCJO.
Döffinger completed a master’s degree in jazz piano/ pedagogy at the Lucerne University of Music (CH) and a master’s degree in jazz composition and arrangement at the University of Art in Graz (AT). Claudia’s greatest passion is the sounding body big band. In 2018 she released her first big band album Monochrome, but also with her small formations she is doing her mischief on national and international stages: in 2020 already the third record Better Angry Than Sad by fourscape (CH) was released and in 2021 the debut album from above of her chamber music jazz quintet ELiNOR (AT).
Claudia can already look back on numerous international awards: Metropole Arrangers Workshop with Vince Mendoza and Lalah Hathaway (2015/NL), 3rd International Composition Competition Katowice (PL/2016), Downbeat Student Music Award (2017&2018/USA). Furthermore, she is a laureate of the Harald Kaufmann Award and the Start Scholarship 2018 (AT). In June 2021 she wins first prize in the Helsinki International Big Band Composing Contest (FL) and was among the nominees for the German Jazz Award in the category Arrangement of the Year.
Claudia currently composes, arranges and works for and with large ensembles such as the hr Big Band (D, Frankfurt), UMO Helsinki (Helsinki, FI), the Subway Jazz Orchestra (D, Cologne), the Spielvereinigung Süd (D, Leipzig), the Big Band of the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (CH) or the Big Band Zug (CH).
She is lecturer for composition and arrangement at the Lucerne University of Music (CH).
