On this evening, pianist Niklas Roever celebrates the completion of his studies at the Cologne University of Music and Dance. Together with his longtime friends and musical companions Roger Kintopf on bass and Simon Bräumer on drums, he will present his sound language in composition and improvisation, which he developed during the years of his studies.

The well-rehearsed trio sees itself as a platform for joint creation. In doing so, it uses a transparent and at the same time detailed tonal language in which differentiated interaction and spontaneity play an essential role in the interpretation of the structure-giving compositions. In particular, influences of Bill Evans, Bill Carrothers, Maurice Ravel and John Taylor are heard and felt. The Niklas Roever Trio can already look back on two releases – one as a trio and one as a quartet supplemented with singer Lina Knörr. In addition, the band, which has been in existence since 2016, has been invited to the final rounds of the Viersen Jazz Prize and the Hansjürg Hensler Jazz Competition, among others, and won second prize in the Germany-wide Hästens Jazzawards and first prize in the EastPlugged Jazzawards of the USB Foundation in Ratingen. In addition, the Niklas Roever Trio was awarded a special scholarship by the Werner Richard – Dr. Carl Dörken Foundation in 2018.

Niklas Roever grew up in the Upper Bavarian district of Mühldorf a. Inn. He studied from 2013-2016 as a junior student with Prof. Titian Jost at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich. Since 2014 he is a member of the Landesjugendjazzorchester Bayern. After graduating from high school in 2016, he began studying at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln with, among others, Prof. Hendrik Soll, Prof. Hubert Nuss and Roland Höppner. In 2019-2020, he studied at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris with Hervé Sellin and Pierre de Bethmann. He has been a member of the Bundesjazzorchester since 2020.

Roger Kintopf comes from Darmstadt, where he received lessons from Matthias Nowak. From 2016-2018 he was a member of the Bundesjazzorchester. Since 2016 he has been studying at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln with, among others, Dietmar Fuhr, Prof. Jonas Burgwinkel and Prof. Dieter Manderscheid. He also studied at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris with Riccardo Del Fra in 2019-2020.

Simon Bräumer is also from Hesse. He was a member of the Landesjugendjazzorchester Hessen and has been studying at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln with Prof. Michael Küttner and Prof. Jonas Burgwinkel since 2015. In the winter semester 2018/19 he studied with James Maddren at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London as part of the Erasmus exchange program. Since 2020 he is also a member of the Bundesjazzorchester.
