After years of empty threats, Jochen Rueckert is getting serious. The New York-based German jazz drummer combines the two pillars of his touring life: American saxophonist Mark Turner, whom Rueckert has been tormenting with long journeys in his quartet since 2008, and Swiss-citizenship-aspiring trombonist Nils Wogram, in whose band Root 70 Rueckert has been tormented with long journeys himself for over 25 years, are heard together for the first time in the quintet put together especially for this short tour. Bassist Doug Weiss, with whom Rueckert has played in various bands for ages, and Dutch bass clarinetist Joris Roelofs round out the band. The band’s repertoire was not only composed and arranged by Rueckert, but also personally printed out and taped by the artist himself. LOFT operator UB Müller comments: „He knew the risks – he did it anyway.“
