Linus Eppinger is a young jazz guitarist living in Amsterdam. His style is deeply rooted in the blues-oriented tradition of jazz guitarists like Wes Montgomery, George Benson and Peter Bernstein.
For his debut album Leaning In he has enlisted, in addition to the young pianist Nicolai Daneck, a rhythm section that can hardly be surpassed in quality and prestige: Jorge Rossy, who has drummed his way to becoming one of the most influential drummers of his generation, especially as a member of the Brad Mehldau Quartet, and Doug Weiss, who has been considered one of the most important bass players in New York since the 1990s and has regularly accompanied Lee Konitz, Al Foster and Chris Potter, among others. Nicolai Daneck convinces on piano with tasteful accompaniment, elegant lines and an impeccable sense of rhythm and swing. Lang: Linus Eppinger is a guitarist from Freiburg i.Br. whose style is deeply rooted in the tradition of blues-oriented jazz guitarists such as Wes Montgomery, George Benson and Peter Bernstein. He has been living in Amsterdam since 2017, where he has now established himself as an integral part of the jazz scene. Furthermore, he teaches guitar at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. Nicolai Daneck (piano), like Linus, comes from Freiburg i. Br., where the two played in the Freiburger Schรผler Jazz Orchester as teenagers over 10 years ago. Swing and the blues, but above all the fascination for the guitar/piano duo of the century Wes Montgomery/Wynton Kelly brought the two together โ and they forged a plan: โAs soon as weโre ready, weโll grab the best rhythm section we can somehow get, make an album and put our own stamp on the whole thing.โ
In June 2021, the time has come to record in a 1930s Amsterdam dance hall, and itโs hard to imagine a better rhythm section in Europe right now than the one represented on it. Doug Weiss on bass and Jorge Rossy on drums are among the best the New York jazz scene has produced in the last 30 years. Doug Weiss has played with Lee Konitz, Chris Potter, Brian Blade, Al Foster and Harold Mabern, among others. Jorge Rossy is best known as the drummer for the Brad Mehldau Trio, but has also played with Wayne Shorter, Charlie Haden and Joe Lovano, among others. The two create an irresistibly swinging, yet creative and varied foundation for the guitar/piano conversations.
Slow blues in the tradition of T-Bone Walker, swinging, catchy compositions influenced by Horace Silver, as well as classic show tunes like โOn the Street Where You Liveโ from the musical โMy Fair Ladyโ made famous by Dean Martin are the defining musical facets of the Linus Eppinger Quartet.
