Initiated by Hans Martin Müller, the duo Frank Gratkowski and Paulo Álvares performed at the LOFT for the first time on September 14th, 1991 as part of an event organized by the Ehrenfeld art association Tata West, after the exceptional musicians had independently won the Silver and Golden Amadeus at the Musik Kreativ competition in the same year and had previously made their application recordings at the LOFT.
Both have been teaching improvisation at the Cologne University of Music and Dance for a long time – after many years, they met again at LOFT just over four years ago, and it was already clear then: this meeting must be repeated as soon as possible....
