"Curious like a child, always on the lookout for the unexpected, the mysterious" ...
... that's how bassist Lukas Keller describes the stubborn nature of his quartet BÖRT. The four musicians from the dense Cologne scene are a prime example of what is currently possible in young European jazz. Their debut album HANA (recorded in February 2020 at LOFT) will be released on May 28th 2021 on BERTHOLD Records. For the release concert they have brought on board the multiple award-winning trombonist Nils Wogram (Root 70, Nostalgia Trio, ...), a familiar face to the LOFT audience.

"Hana 花" is the Japanese word for flower or blossom and inevitably evokes associations such as color, expressivity, fragility, or transience. However, BÖRT is not afraid to break with such expectations... So you can be curious!

Lukas Keller (*1991 in Aschaffenburg) was accepted into the Bavarian State Youth Jazz Orchestra in 2007, with which he played numerous concerts worldwide.
For his studies he moved to Cologne in 2011, where he studied jazz double bass with Dieter Manderscheid, Dietmar Fuhr, Sebastian Gramss, Jonas Burgwinkel and Hubert Nuss. In addition, he was inspired by numerous workshops with Barre Philipps, Larry Grenadier, John Taylor, Mark Dresser and William Parker, among others.

BÖRT is a prize winner of the Jazz@undesigned competition 2019 of the Werner Richard - Dr. Carl Dörken Foundation.
