Bill Cunliffe celebrates 30 years of composing for big band with his first live big-band recording at Vitello’s. Over two nights, Bill and his band will perform selections dating from his first years writing for Buddy Rich to his most recent compositions.

An entirely different program will be played each night. Wednesday, August 14, will feature the Los Angeles premiere of Bill’s version of Sergei Prokofiev’s Third Piano Concerto. On Thursday the 15th, Bill will lead his celebrated “Goldberg Contraption,” based on the Bach keyboard masterpiece.

Guest starring on both nights will be trumpet great Terell Stafford. On the 14th, vocalist John Proulx will be featured in a piece Bill wrote for him during their recent tour in China. On the 15th, Dawn Bishop will be guest vocalist.

Members of the band include trumpeters Wayne Bergeron (8/15), Kye Palmer, Dan Fornero (8/14), Bob Summers, John Daversa (8/14) and Larry Hall (8/15), saxophonists Bob Sheppard (8/15), Brian Scanlon, Jeff Ellwood, Rob Lockart and Adam Schroeder, trombonists Andy Martin (8/15), Bob McChesney and Bill Reichenbach, drummer Joe La Barbera, bassist Jonathan Richards and guitarist Larry Koonse.
