El Cid continues its Tuesday Jazz Series this holiday season with Hot Club of Los Angeles performing gypsy jazz, a style of music pioneered by the Belgian guitar virtuoso and composer Django Reinhardt (1910-1953), on November 26, December 3, 10, and 17.
The seven members of the Hot Club of Los Angeles are all esteemed southern California-based musicians with backgrounds as sidemen and band leaders in a wide array of musical styles, including jazz, blues, country, rockabilly, jump blues, pop, rock, folk and various forms of world music. When these players come together to perform as the Hot Club of Los Angeles, they draw inspiration from Django's group, the Quintette du Hot Club de France and the array of other great gypsy jazz musicians who laid the groundwork for this infectious musical genre that continues to captivate audiences today.
