Fifth Annual Jazz Festival at Center For The Arts At El Camino College

This year’s ¡Fiesta de Jazz! is a day-long series comprised of musical performances and workshops, where students from both high school and college levels, along with faculty and professional musicians, have an opportunity to connect, share and celebrate jazz music. The Afro Peruvian Jazz Orchestra, co-founded by El Camino College Alumnus Anibal Seminario, and saxophonist Lorenzo Ferrero, will be our Featured Artist this year.

The Festival begins at 3:00pm with a concert given by ECC’s Concert Jazz Band, our flagship jazz big band. At 4:00 p.m., ECC Applied Music Faculty members Larry Steen (bass) and Mark Massey (piano), will be giving a clinic about their careers as rhythm section musicians. At 6:30 p.m., attendees are invited to enjoy the dinner hour at the Marsee Auditorium’s South Patio, where ECC Student Jazz Combos will be performing. Tables and chairs will be set up and a variety of Food Trucks in front of the Marsee Auditorium will be present with a variety of food and drinks available for purchase.

At 8:00 p.m., the Evening Gala Concert at Marsee Auditorium will commence with a Jazz Band Showcase, featuring high school big bands that were selected through the call-for-bands. The Chris Mello Memorial Scholarship will be presented during the concert to a deserving ECC Student. Following the intermission, the 19-piece Afro Peruvian Jazz Orchestra will perform an exciting set of original compositions.

Daytime events are FREE to all; the evening gala is a ticketed concert at $10 for adults, and a special discounted rate of $5 to high school students with ID at the box office. Both concert tickets and parking permits can be purchased using our ticketing system at centerforthearts.org.
