Jason Lee Bruns (b. October, 3, 1979, Coldwater, Ohio) is an American percussionist, drummer, producer and educator. He holds a Bachelor’s in Music Performance (with a Minor in composition) from Miami University (OH) and a Master’s in Jazz Studies from the University of Southern California as well as certificates from the Mangueira Samba School in Brazil and the International Folklore Laboratory in Havana, Cuba.

As a sideman Jason has played in the house bands for Louis Price (The Temptations), Neil Sedaka, Liane Carroll (2x BBC Jazz Award Winner) and the Wild Ginger Philharmonic. Jason has performed at Los Angeles’ top venues including Disney Hall, House of Blue, the former La Ve Lee Jazz Club & Spazio’s, Herb Alpert’s Vibrato, Vitello’s, and the Catalina Jazz Club.

As a producer and certified ProTools engineer he has released several CD’s on the Panout Music Group label. These include “LIVE at Catalina”, “45 RPM”, “JLB Jazz Collective with Jason Gamer”, “Tapas”, “The Egrem Session” (recorded at the famous Egrem Studio in Havana Cuba), and the L.A. Caribbean Ensemble’s “L.A.C.E.” Jason held an artist residency for the City of Los Angeles and is the founder of the World Music and Recording Arts programs at Campbell Hall’s new 55 Million Dollar “Arts and Education Center” in North Hollywood.

Jason is a contributing author to the Percussive Arts Society’s academic journal “Percussive Notes”, a BMI composer, and a member of the Recording Academy. Jason plays all styles of drum set specializing in Jazz, Afro-Latin, and Brazilian. He also plays the soprano/lead steel drum and knows all Brazilian & Cuban percussion instruments and genres very well.

Behind the drum set he is known for his unique ability to recreate the texture and deep tribal groove of a large percussion ensemble (audience members have claimed he sounds like 5 people at once).

Contrastingly, Jason’s got his start drumming to Classic Rock albums that included drummer’s such as John Bonham (Led Zeppelin), Sib Hashian (Boston), Keith Moon (The Who), and Dave Krusen (Pearl Jam), to name a few. In a pop setting Jason’s hard grooving yet precise & intricate drumming style has been compared by some to that of Stewart Copland (The Police).
