LOS ANGELES: The annual Los Angeles Jazz Society’s Jazz Tribute Awards Concert attracts jazz musicians and jazz lovers from all over Southern California in a celebration of jazz and the talented people who have made this extraordinary music their life’s passion. All to raise funds for jazz education programs, benefiting many thousands of young people in the LAUSD public schools each year.

This year, the Jazz Tribute Awards Concert will be held Saturday, November 19th, 7:30pm at The Montalban Theatre in Hollywood honoring the one and only Quincy Jones with our 2016 Lifetime Achievement Award. “Celebrating the World of Quincy Jones” will salute him for his many years of mentorship and support of young musicians, along with his multitude of musical achievements. The extensive performer list includes: Patti Austin, Emily Bear, Jeff & John Clayton, Darynn Dean, Siedah Garrett, Justin Kauflin, Alfredo Rodriguez, Hubert Laws, Rickey Minor, Greg Phillinganes, Katie Thiroux and the LA Jazz Society Big Band.

That evening, the Jazz Society will also present the David L. Abell ‘Angel’ Award to Jackie & Howard Banchik, recognizing their longtime support of young musician, jazz programs and the LA Jazz Society. And, the brilliant young trumpeter Evan Abounassar will receive the Shelly Manne Memorial New Talent Award.

With the dramatic budget cutbacks over the past few years, many of the music and arts programs in the schools have been eliminated. This annual Tribute is the Society’s primary fundraiser helping to continue our highly acclaimed programs – Jazz in Schools, Bill Green Mentorship, Jazz Coolcats, and New Note – for more info on these programs, please visit our website.
