Marcello Carelli at Second Home

In just his second appearance as a leader, drummer and composer Marcello Carelli will take the stage at Second Home with an almost entirely new sextet made up of Los Angeles’ finest young musicians. In this set, you will be hearing some of the tunes from Marcello’s recent release "The Era" as well as new tunes and his arrangements of his favorite jazz standards. In this set, you will be hearing some of the tunes from Marcello’s recent release "The Era" as well as new tunes and his arrangements of his favorite jazz standards. Originally from Bedford Hills, New York, Marcello has earned a bachelor’s degree at the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music, working with esteemed faculty such as Dafnis Prieto, John Daversa, Martin Bejerano, John Hart, Maria Schneider, and Shelly Berg. He is now pursuing a master’s degree at the University of Southern California’s Thornton School of Music under the mentorship of Peter Erskine. Marcello has also played with Russell Ferrante, Dave Liebman, Ira Sullivan, Walt Weiskopf, Andy Fusco, Wycliffe Gordon, and Troy Roberts. He recently won a Downbeat Student Music Award for his Songo arrangement of Cole Porter's "It's All Right with Me," which you can hear on his debut record "The Era."
