Origin Records artist Michael Orenstein returns to Sam First to pay respect to one of the most underrated jazz geniuses of the 20th century, pianist Kenny Kirkland. Kirkland is best known for his prolific work as a sideman for greats like Branford Marsalis, Kenny Garrett, and even Sting. However, since his untimely passing in 1998, his distinct piano playing and composing has garnered him a cult following, made up of devotees who regard his self-titled album as an almost religious text. For an extremely rare performance of the entirety of Kirkland's singular album as a leader, Kenny Kirkland (1991), Orenstein has put together a phenomenal quartet of long-time collaborators and some of the premier rising stars in jazz today.
