One of the 80’s most popular LA bands, The Shelby Flint Group returns to the stage 25 years after their last performance at the Monterey Jazz Festival.

As a Valiant/Warner Bros. recording artist, Shelby’s first self-penned hit was 1960’s “Angel on My Shoulder”, followed by “Cast Your Fate to the Wind”. While developing a thriving studio career, she continued to grow as a singer/songwriter, eventually performing her original compositions with her seminal all-star group in the late 70’s-80’s.

Appearing at Los Angeles’ premier jazz venues, the band’s growing reputation led to a live recording produced by Michael Stewart and engineered by famed Armin Steiner. The “You’ve Been On My Mind” LP was critically acclaimed and the cut, “Mercury”, played on high rotation at West Coast jazz and college stations. Her Jazz/R&B collaborations in the 90′s with Gregg Karukas, Tim Weston and Mike Garson expanded her following to a new generation of sophisticated listeners....

Shelby Flint is an original. Her body of work reveals a lifetime commitment to the evolution of a deeply personal musical style. Her clear, angelic vocal style was the prototype for a generation of female songwriters to follow. In a Mirabelle interview, Joni Mitchell said “I started out copying a girl named Shelby Flint”. Music critic, Leonard Feather, declared her a “technically flawless” singer.

The SF Group (Shelby with Jerry Peterson, Gregg Karukas, Bill Bodine, Jerry Steinholtz and Denny Seiwell) comprises a stellar group of instrumentalists who have played and recorded with a broad array of top artists, including Paul McCartney, Joan Armatrading, Kim Carnes, Dave Koz, Diana Ross and countless others. Their involvement in her music over the years has deepened and enriched the songs in a way that only happens in the context of a dedicated band.

In late Summer 2012, her longtime percussionist, Jerry Steinholtz and the members of her original group persuaded Shelby to get together at former Wings drummer Denny Seiwell’s house to re-visit her songs and see if they still loved this music. They all did. Sounding better than ever, and re-united with her original band, she returns to the stage to share the songs that have been silent for over a quarter of a century.

The album they made in 1985 (The Oceanway Tapes) of incredible “new” songs was never released. This project, now entitled “Yesterdays” is being prepared for release this year.
