Mount Wilson Observatory, the scientific marvel in the mountains above Pasadena, presents the first of six Sunday Afternoon Concerts in the Dome in its 2023 season under the magnificent vaulted dome of the historic 100-inch telescope. On Sunday, May 14, 2023, back by popular demand, the audience is invited to experience the Lounge Art Ensemble, led by Weather Report drummer extraordinaire Peter Erskine. This exceptional jazz trio also features saxophonist Bob Sheppard and bassist Darek Oles. The Lounge Art Ensemble jazz trio will offer a freewheeling selection of standards and original tunes in the observatory’s unique and historic venue. The performance will be acoustic, without amplification, promising that the full tonality of the instruments and the dynamic control these musicians possess will be fully appreciated by the audience. Since group leader Erskine has carte blanche for selecting the tunes and sequence, he will announce the program on the spot. There will be an artist reception at 4:00pm between each concert’s hour-long session.
