TriTone Asylum is a collective of Los Angeles based musicians who bring together years of experience and collaboration. Their instrumentation includes electronic valve instrument (EVI), guitar, saxophone, keyboards, bass and drums.

TriTone Asylum’s sound is strongly shaped by artists ranging from Pat Metheny and Ralph Towner to the funkier sounds of late 60’s/ early 70’s exemplified by Freddie Hubbard and Herbie Hancock.

One element that distinguishes the TriTone Asylum sound is the use of the EVI/Wind Controller as a primary instrument in the front line. In his comments, Yanow observes that the use of the EVI, “adds a great deal to the unique sound of the group.”

TriTone Asylum has performed at many notable jazz venues in LA with regular appearances at top line clubs like The Baked Potato. In addition, TriTone Asylum has shared the bill with top Jazz artists such as, Charlie Hayden & Larry Goldings. Jazz critic Don Heckman, when reviewing this show commented, “they (TriTone Asylum) brought some fascinating new views to such familiar jazz items as Freddie Hubbard’s “Little Sunflower,” Ralph Towner’s “Icarus” and Hampton Hawes “Sonora.”
