Grammy-nominated Kim Richmond Concert Jazz Orchestra performs a special concert to celebrate their new CD recording of Artistry, a tribute to legendary big band leader Stan Kenton and his Neophonic Orchestra. Combining the sounds of large ensemble jazz with symphonic colors and textures, The Kim Richmond Concert Jazz Orchestra performs at downtown Los Angeles’ REDCAT (Roy and Edna Disney/CalArts Theater) on Friday, March 29, 2013 at 8:30 pm. REDCAT is located at 631 West 2nd Street (located in the Walt Disney Concert Hall Complex). Led by saxophone soloist Kim Richmond, the 24-piece orchestra, featuring expansive instrumentation that includes five woodwinds, four trumpets, four trombones, two French horns, Latin percussion and more, plays from its latest release, Artistry, an evening of free-swinging improvisation paying homage to “Kentonesque” jazz and Latin-style compositions, the size and scope of the master’s kinetic orchestration, rightfully known to music historians as the original “Wall of Sound.” Hubert Laws, solist flutist, is the special guest artist....
