US Premiere: Hauz Khas Connection at San Gabriel Mission Playhouse

Enjoy a night of world music and join musicians onstage in an intimate setting as the Indian-Jazz fusion trio, Hauz Khas Connection, makes its US debut at the San Gabriel Mission Playhouse.

The three talented members that make up Hauz Khas Connection came together in India where they created their first album appropriately named MILAAP, which means “come together” in Hindi.

Hyunpill Shin (saxophone), made his debut in the Korean music industry in 2010 at the Jarasum International Jazz Festival where he garnered the “Best Soloist of the Year” award. Vishal Nagar (tabla) has worked with prominent artists including Pandit Birju Maharaj, Grammy nominated Ustad Shujaat Khan, and Grammy award winning saxophonist Jeff Coffin of the Dave Matthews Band. He currently teaches in the US and India, serving as ambassador of Tabla.

An eighth generation sarangi player, Suhail Yusuf Khan started playing the instrument at the age of 7. From performing in international festivals across Europe and India to composing music for radio and TV commercials, he has been featured in Rolling Stone India magazine and was listed in Forbes India’s “30 Under 30.”

When these three accomplished artists combine their unique sounds, the result is a perfect union of classical Indian music and contemporary jazz.

This event is part of Engage!, the Mission Playhouse Community Engagement program. Engage! projects offer the public a way to connect with the arts and artists, often for free. Events range from plays to free concerts, exhibits, screenings, discussions, and workshops.
