VAN NUYS, CA (August 1, 2017) -- Keyboard mallet masters will reign at Vibe Summit XXIV, a joyful conglomeration of some of music's greatest vibes players in an afternoon of entertainment to benefit the educational programs of the Los Angeles Jazz Society. The event, open to the public, will be held Sunday, August 13th from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Elk’s Lodge in Canoga Park.
Vibe Summit XXIV will showcase performances by a host of leading jazz vibraphone artists who will join in celebrating fellow vibes great, Richard Schwagerl, this year's Los Angeles Jazz Society honoree. “We're thrilled to honor Richard for his outstanding talent and musical career as well as his longstanding support of the annual Vibe Summit. Artists already confirmed to perform are Lolly Allen, Tom Collier, Larry Keller, Nick Mancini, Bob Leatherbarrow, Onaje Murray, Gabe Nobles, Kahlil Sabbaugh, and more to come! They will be back up by a terrific rhythm section: Tateng Katindig, piano; Richard Simon, bass; and Jon Stuart on drums.
To honor the legacy of Vibe Summit founder, Mal Sands, a scholarship is awarded annually to support an outstanding school music program. This year's Mal Sands Award will be presented to the The Mariachi Conservatory. Richard Mata and his wife Esperanza Juarez founded The Mariachi Conservatory in 2007 in Boyle Heights, Los Angeles. On August of 2009, Salesian High School (where Richard teaches) graciously open its doors to give The Mariachi Conservatory a new home, and where mariachi music classes currently continue to resonate and reverberate into the cityscape of Boyle Heights.
Steve Tarango is the music coordinator, and will perform double duty as the concert emcee. Coordinating the Vibe Summit for the Los Angeles Jazz Society is Scherr Lillico.
Food and refreshments will be available, along with a music marketplace offering CDs and music equipment, a raffle and silent auction. Proceeds from the event benefit Los Angeles Jazz Society programs including Jazz in Schools and the Bill Green Mentorship Program to encourage young jazz musicians.
The event, open to the public, will be held Sunday, August 13th from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Elk’s Lodge, 20925 Osborne Street, Canoga Park, CA 91304. Tickets are $25 at the door, $15 for Jazz Society members, or join the Los Angeles Jazz Society onsite for $35 and gain admission for $10.
