The Carlton Club Jazz Club has quickly become a staple, among others, in the Manchester Jazz scene, offering a lovely Sunday evening showcasing some of the best Jazz artists from the city and sometimes further afield.
This February, we welcome Aaron Liddard (saxophone) for an incredible quartet performance.

Aaron Liddard is a British saxophonist, composer, and bandleader known for his work across jazz, funk, and popular music. He has performed and recorded with artists including Amy Winehouse, Prince, Maceo Parker, Bob Geldof, Beverley Knight, Carlos Acosta, Michael Henderson, and Norman Connors, and leads his own ensemble, Nylon Man. This February, we welcome Aaron Liddard (saxophone) for an incredible quartet performance.

Aaron Liddard is a British saxophonist, composer, and bandleader known for his work across jazz, funk, and popular music. He has performed and recorded with artists including Amy Winehouse, Prince, Maceo Parker, Bob Geldof, Beverley Knight, Carlos Acosta, Michael Henderson, and Norman Connors, and leads his own ensemble, Nylon Man. He has been a professional musician since graduating from university in Manchester in 1996. He relocated to London in 2003.

In addition to his work as a sideman, Liddard has developed a distinctive creative voice as a composer and bandleader.

His project Nylon Man features original material drawing on jazz, Latin and soul influences. The group has appeared at jazz venues and festivals in the UK, Brazil, and Europe.

Liddard also arranges and records horn sections from his home studio in the UK, and leads bands for incoming artists.

Liddard’s playing is characterised by a warm tone, lyrical phrasing and an emphasis on groove-oriented improvisation. His influences include classic funk and soul horn sections, post-bop jazz, and contemporary fusion. His original jazz is “unlike anything you’ve ever heard before – truly inspiring stuff”. He is known for integrating these elements within both ensemble and solo contexts.
