Even if you are used to being a lead singer, being able to support with harmonies and basic choreography will open up many additional opportunities in your career. We will cover basic harmony, blend, stage presence, easy choreography, and how to support a lead vocalist. Singers will have the opportunity to sing both lead and backing vocals. The workshop will start with a quick placement audition then proceed to work on performance and repertoire. All levels accepted, though past singing experience is preferred. The instructor will provide music and materials. Lilan Kane (pronounced LEE - lawn) is an award-winning singer-songwriter based in Oakland, CA. She released her album Love, Myself to a sold-out crowd at Yoshi's Jazz Club. Her vintage-tinged soul sound flows through heartfelt compositions, telling stories of love, loss, and self-discovery while they seamlessly blend R&B, funk, pop, and jazz. She is currently in the studio working on her next album.The Berklee College of Music alum recently performed in New Orleans at the French Quarter Festival and graced the Yoshi's stage again, this time with the dynamic Cosa Nostra Strings. They also performed at Undercover Presents: A Tribute to the Miseducation of Lauryn Hill at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco. Other notable performances include the Fillmore Jazz Festival, Black Cat, Concord Pavillion, San Jose Winter Jazz Festival, Great American Music Hall, Sweetwater Music Hall, The Mint LA, the Whisky A Go-Go, among others. She has opened for or shared the stage with Pete Escovedo, Trombone Shorty, Sharon Jones, Hall & Oates, Chicago, The Doobie Brothers, Morgan James, Lenny Williams (Tower of Power), Freddie Hughes, Delta Rae, J. Cole, among others. She has also been featured on KCSM, KPFA, KPOO, and Time Warner Cable Manhattan. Her song ÒSeparate Lives (Remix)Ó was recently released on The Hurst Selection Vol. 3 released (Atlanta Records/Rope-A-Dope Records) which can be found on her EP ""Wonder"" produced by Michael Aaberg. Lilan graduated from Berklee with a degree in Music Business/Management. She studied with Grammy award-winning vocal arranger Donna McElroy and drummer/arranger Kenwood Dennard. After a few years in New York City working on the business side, she returned to her West Coast roots to pursue life as a musician and explore her entrepreneurial spirit.
